Tyrol Competence Center on Light Pollution and Dark Skies
As little artificial light as possible, as much lighting as necessary! That is our motto and goal. For our nature, environment, health and the boundless view of the starry sky.
Artificial light at night not only affects numerous animal species (bats, birds, moths, etc.), light smog also makes the starry sky disappear and disturbs people’s well-being and health.
The Tyrolean Environmental Ombudsoffice has been campaigning for the careful use of artificial light in outdoor spaces since 1999. Fruitful collaborations have been established with partners from various disciplines such as astronomy, lighting technology, medicine, environmental protection and nature conservation in Austria and Europe.
