Tyrol Competence Center on Light Pollution and Dark Skies
As little artificial light as possible, as much lighting as necessary! That is our motto and goal. For our nature, environment, health and the boundless view of the starry sky.
Artificial light at night not only affects numerous animal species (bats, birds, moths, etc.), light pollution also causes the starry sky to disappear and disrupts human well-being and health.
Since 1999, the Tyrolean Environmental Ombudsman has been campaigning for the careful use of artificial light in outdoor spaces. This has led to fruitful collaborations with partners from various disciplines such as astronomy, lighting technology, medicine, and environmental protection and nature conservation in Austria and Europe.
