Species protection measure for the yellow-bellied toad in the municipality of Tarrenz: In the framework of the Via Claudia Augusta Habitat Network and Wildlife Corridor nature protection project, species protection measures for the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata) were commissioned by the Office of the Environmental Ombudsman for the Tyrol. The measures taken were made possible by the work performed over the years on a largely volunteer basis by the highly committed Keppler family of Imst involving protective measures and population counts, which were conducted with the support of Technisches Büro Glaser and partly financed out of the Tyrolean Nature Protection Fund (cf. Kapeller, B., Kapeller, S. & Glaser, F. (2010): Erfolgskontrolle von Pflegemaßnahmen für die Gelbbauchunke im Gurgltal: Populationsschätzung & Nutzung von Einzelgewässer. – Im Auftrag LEV Gurgltal, 30 p.). In close collaboration with the Tarrenz local authority and with the support of the Imst District Public Works Department, further measures are now being taken (construction of numerous ponds) to offer optimum conditions for the survival of this toad population. Project implementation is being handled under ecological supervision so that final pond design can go hand in hand with the construction work.
